Elle Scott

"Elle Scott's album "Stories from the Treehouse" includes several gems that are ambitious and ripe with taut sensitive vocal delivery and lyrical meaning. Scott's genre is an emotional and instrumentally interesting acoustic pop with a cross-over country taste. Scott's voice is a clear and crisp strong pop/country deliverer. Hovering between soprano and alto she animates the lyrics as a story-teller while applying a child-like enthusiasm." (Taken from a review by Don Kimenker. While very proud and gratified to have made a great record, Elle is particularly humbled and enthusiastic to have "Stories From The Treehouse" included in any SAAF endeavor. Elle's grandfather served in WWII and like her mother before her, Elle once proudly took his foot locker to summer camp in fond memory. Elle has family members who have served in Afghanistan and Iraq. Her cousin is married to a career officer and Elle has heard many stories of life as a traveling army wife and mother and what it is like to bear witness to all the challenges, joys and losses that the armed forces families experience.

It's notable that several of the songs on "Stories From The Treehouse" touch upon the circumstances of war and separation. She wrote some of the lyrics in "Summertime" with the troops deployed in Iraq front of mind. "I have slept in the desert. And I've made a thousand cry." When she writes about being between the hatred and the love, Elle is not only speaking of her own personal challenges as a newly divorced mother, but also she imagined quite poignantly the difficulty that America's troops face. They are experiencing the agony of war in a world divided while also feeling and sharing the tremendous love of their families and friends back home. And the song "Can I Bring You Home" is not just a love song. It is about the sometimes seemingly impossible challenge of hopefulness. It goes without saying that while supporting the troops is crucial, everybody wants everyone to come home safely.

Elle wants SAAF visitors to know, as they listen to her voice singing "Goddess of Mercy", that every one of us is an angel when we offer up even just a little of ourselves to help those in need. SAAF is the perfect illustration of its own mission statement. There have been thousands of miracles and so many smiles and tears of understanding that the SAAF community has created. Thank you for supporting this amazing mission.
